since we dont have a general discussion forum up yet, I figured here was as good as any a place for this post. My family is looking into buying some property to hunt on in ms. We are looking for a 100 or so acres and I want some opinions as to where ya'll fine folks, and I do use that term loosely, would consider the best county in ms to buy land to hunt on. I live in south ms so obviously closer would be better as far as the logistics but I'm not going to sacrifice quality deer just to save a few bucks on gas. anyhow thanks in advance.

No matter the area I strongly suggest that you lease a year before you buy that small a place, nothing wrong with the amount of land, but my neighbor bought 60 acres beside me, did alot of work and was very upset when deer season got there. The people in our area run dogs and this causes problems when you want to still hunt all of the time. Not trying to tell you what to do but he paid over 1000 an acre for set out pines less than a year old and has been very disappointed.

Some of the best land (such as Madison, Holmes, MS River Delta, etc.) are adjacent to areas that flood. Given that you are looking to buy 100 acres or so, make dang sure yours isn't the part that is actually under water! There is a ton of fine land that has been flooded for the last few seasons. Try to find some hills right next to the stuff that floods!

We have family land in both Claiborne and Jefferson county. Both have some really good deer but there is a lot of hunting pressure. There is always land for sale in both counties. It is expensive vs some other counties around but you can still find some decent deals if you are patient.
