Default Well I'll be Damned.....Sheepshead will eat a fly!

Got my second sheepshead on fly last week. This one was an honest stud cajun permit.

I was actually looking for big redfish and black drum at the time. Fishing a spot where I had been consistently seeing them. Had one a large purple terminator crab when this thing appeared. It was cruising right along the grass. I cast and the fly landed in the grass so I gently nugged it and it fell ever so quietly into the water right in front of the fishes nose. He sipped it in alike a rainbow trout taking a tiny dry fly.

Knew it was big but had no idea how big until after the fact. Too bad I released it.

It would have been the LA state record had I taken it in.

2denduke - Terminators are a great redfish fly. Ok at best for black drum. I wouldn't use one for Sheepshead unless it was tied very very small. The one I caught was more a fluke than anything else. The two days after that we probably threw at over 60 sheepies with every smaller fly in the box. Had a bunch follow and several tail up on the fly only to refuse it.

Sheepshead the fish you love to hate.
