Default Mt. Cur eyes

I don't think my Mt. Curs eyes reflect light. I know my treeing walkers did. I was wondering if this is common for curs. it might explain why he is ready to go home when it gets dark. I don't believe he can see well at night. I am going to check again but I'm pretty sure they don't reflect. Should I be concerned? It doesn't affect him in the daylight.

It would be very unusual.

I don't know that I've ever seen a dog that didn't reflect but I guess there is nothing I can do about it. He aint nothing but a big old pet to me so I'll just hunt him when its light out. He might can see in the dark but he doesn't answer me when I talk to him.

No... not common for mountain curs. If he's having vision problems, I'd have him checked by a vet.

This article gives some potential explanations on why a dog's eyes may not be reflecting light:

Thanks for the response, I just noticed the eyes a few weeks ago and decided to ask. He is healthy and seems happy so I'm not worried about it. He gets after it in the woods and is a pleasure to own. Maybe he didn't develop completely but it's not a big deal. I am going to carry him one night pretty soon and see if he gets around ok. I can always turn him loose at dawn. Leroy is my buddy more than a hunting dog anyway. He is 2 years old so he has been around awhile. Thanks again.
