Default Shine hits his stride!

Last January my son and I took on a 4 year old mountain cur who was not in a great situation. He was terribly underweight and had a bad case of heartworms. I've been the primary caretaker, but my son has done a great job keeping the dog in the woods. He's turned out to be a fantastic coon dog, which concerned us just a little bit because of the conventional wisdom that most dogs don't excel at both coons and squirrels. And through the first couple squirrel hunts this year, that seemed to be the case. He just wasn't treeing many squirrels. Well...turns out he just needed a few tune-ups, and yesterday he hit his stride! It was awesome.

It's really rewarding to know we rescued a worthy animal from a situation where his talents were being wasted, gave him a great home, helped make him healthy again, and now have him doing what he was bred to do.
