Default My Son's Trophy

On Tuesday 7/21/2020 the Dept of Marine Resources awarded my son Samuel the New Mississippi Youth State Record Spotted Seatrout (Cynoscion nebulosus) 5 lbs 11.78 oz.

Samuel and I were moving around wade fishing trying to find the bite and right bait when Samuel announced to me, he had one on. The fish was running a lot, similar to a bull red, making a lot of commotion so I continued on my course to find the trout. I wasn’t interested in a big Red, if it happened to break off I wasn’t going to be heartbroken and Samuel was having fun fighting the fish. As I was walking off the fish made one of its final runs in my direction and surfaced just out of arms reach. At that moment, we both realized it was a trophy trout. We both became extremely excited very quickly, but the trout wasn’t through fighting. The fish made a few smaller runs before finally succumbing to exhaustion and into Samuels net. Samuel celebrated with a few fist pumps and high fives as it was definitely his personnel best trout.

He'll remember that one regardless of the record. Nice trout.

That's a beautiful trout. It is 27 inches long it seems it should weigh more than that.Must have just spawned out.Happy you caught it at such a young age.I hope you catch many more & bigger trout. That one puts you in the 5 pounder Club.+...MM

I think she had just spawned. Two egg sacks would have fit in a tablespoon.
