I had the last two days of season off, so I decided I would hunt hard for my last buck.. Tuesday 1/30/18, I hunted morning and evening and seen 1 doe.. I couldn't hunt mid day because I had some errands to run.. Feeling disheartened, I decided to skip the morning hunt on Wednesday 1/31/18 and catch up on some things around the house.. I knew I would for sure hunt the evening because I couldn't break the tradition of watching the sun set on my favorite hobby for the last time of the season..
I got in the shoot house at 3:10pm.. At 3:30pm I look out to see a young doe easing into the patch at 100yds or so.. I get my binos up and notice that it is just a yearling that looks like it is freshly ran off from its mother, but also that her hocks were black as coal.. The doe didn't act like she was being followed at all, so I kicked back and propped my feet up.. After she had been grazing for 10 minutes or so, she started throwing her head up looking into the woods where she came from.. I knew at that moment, he was on his way.. The thought didn't cross my mind very long and I see a buck running full speed through the woods headed for the lane, I jump up and get my gun in the window.. Thank God when he hit the lane, he turned and went away from me instead of crossing, because he was running so fast.. There is no way I could have got a shot with him crossing that 20' wide lane at that speed.. I hollered at him and he froze looking the opposite direction.. I put the crosshairs on the back of his neck and the rest is history.. I have had pictures of this buck for the last month or so, but he was always coming in to my plot 20-30 minutes after dark, only on one evening he came in at 5:30, but I wasn't hunting.. This buck topped off an awesome season for me.. The Lord always blesses me, and I am forever grateful.. Until October boys.. These are also the other bucks from the season.. After two years of life, I FINALLY got a picture with my baby girl and a deer.. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
