Preventing nose to nose contact isnt the goal, that will never happen. The idea is to reduce the saturation of the soil with urine and fecal matter so they wont constantly stand in it then lick their feet and so on and so forth.

Sounds like a scrape to me, besides the fact that besides standing in urine and licking feet they also lick overhanging branches and rub it all over their face. But at least most scrapes are only worked for 60 to 90 days.
I can honestly say I have found deer poop under oak trees, in food plots and in scrapes but never under a feeder.

Put a camera on a scrape, then put a camera on a feeder. Come back in a month and count the number of pictures.
