Had to goggle it. Sounds like it could have advantages as it has a higher protein content and higher resistance to disease. I have no answer for your “mow and throw” question but let us know if you do and how it turns out.
It does as well as wheat and ryegrain in T&M-----both of which are fine if you have the correct conditions. I love T&M, but you have to have the right vegetative base to mow.
If you have had success with T&M, you will do fine using triticale.
