Anybody know of any good places, preferably in southern MS, that do quail hunts? I'm not looking to spend $800, either. Just like a half day hunt. Thinking of taking my dad.
I didnt realize a half day quail hunt was that expensive!!! I was looking around for you, a half day hunt for 6 birds is $600!!!! Wow!! Full day hunt for 12 birds averages a grand.
Actually, raising quail to hunt is a pretty expensive proposition. They can't rely on native populations (not nearly enough for a pay hunt operation) so they have to raise and release. Getting released quail to actually fly means raising them in very long pens with enough height to allow them to learn to fly. That isn't cheap.
I grew up in the middle of quail plantation country (SW GA). You can easily pay $1000/day for a quality hunt.
Come on up to West Point, MS if you really want to quail hunt. Prairie Wildlife has wild birds galore and you'll probably spend more time trying to figure out how to hit them rather than get your 8 bird per party limit.
It'll only cost you around $4,000 for the day I believe. Hard to put a price on something that can't be found anymore......

As of Feb 18, he charged 175.00 for a guided hunt. Now, it's just a hunt, no lodge, no amenities, but I like his setup. Someone invited me on a hunt there year before last and I enjoyed it. The birds actually acted more like wild ones than some of the other hunts I've been on.
Bainbridge is one of the places I considered as a "retirement" location. I grew up in Pelham and Albany. My parents both came from Thomasville. I still love that area.
I grew up in Thomasville. Spent plenty of time around the Pelham area, hunted my Uncle's land in Spence (between T'ville, Pelham and Cairo). Graduated from Central High in 1990. Live in North Gulfport area now.
Old post but i know a guy in between Puckett and Mendenhall that has good reputation on his quail hunts. Its called wildcat creek shooting preserve. # 601 953 3079.
Never too old to bring back a post about quail hunting..... Thanks for sharing huntal
